After an unfortunate accident, do you know what to do? Do you feel like you’re in over your head? Always exchange information with the other driver. Take a photo of their ID, insurance information, and any damage that may have occurred to both your vehicle and to theirs.

Next, engage with a team of expert car accident lawyers so that you can work through it. Proper guidance will help you navigate medical care, medical billing inquiries, and insurance issues. When talking to insurance agents, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by mountains of paperwork and confusing rules. Having help on your side means that you can focus on healing.

Reduce Distractions

It is crucial to maintain safe driving practices. Texting while driving is known to cause unfortunate and unnecessary accidents that are preventable. Instead of choosing to text, make the choice to use technology to your advantage. Enable Bluetooth, and in-vehicle phone systems (if available), and apps that prevent texting while driving.

If you have others in the vehicle with you, discuss expectations regarding safe interactions ahead of time. Since human behavior sometimes contradicts what you expect, pulling off to the side of the road to discuss any issues is an effective way to lessen driving while distracted. It’s always better to arrive late (and safely) than to have an accident.

Prepare

Before you put your vehicle in motion, set both your music and GPS coordinates. If you need to make any changes that require you to look away from the road, pull over. It’s easier to lose a few minutes of time from your agenda than lose property, or worse – a life. Always properly secure your seatbelt before engaging the vehicle, as well.

If you plan on going out for drinks, be intentional about using a rideshare service or having a designated driver. Don’t drink, take illegal or performance-reducing drugs and then get behind the wheel.

Follow The Rules

Speed limits are posted for a reason. The local authorities have studied the area and determined the speed limits for safety reasons. Follow the posted speed limits for the betterment of everyone on the road. As the driver of your vehicle, it is your responsibility to ensure that all of your passengers are following the rules and wearing their seatbelts.

Vehicle Maintenance

Maintain your vehicle on the manufacturer’s recommended schedule. Do this even if you have purchased a previously owned vehicle. Proper and timely servicing will keep it running for years to come. Preventative maintenance may even increase your resale or trade-in value when it comes time to purchase a new vehicle.
