Maritime Transport Ltd (Maritime), a top 25 UK transport operator with a turnover exceeding £200m, has upgraded its Microlise Telematics to include new proof of delivery (pod), driver performance management and remote digital tachograph download functionality.
With a network of 27 sites and more than 1,000 heavy goods vehicles covering the UK, Maritime specialises in providing road, and rail, based transport services to global shipping lines, freight forwarders and cargo owners, including a number of blue chip customers and leading supermarkets.
Their diversification into the distribution sector has seen them expand their offering to their customers and their success within the sector over the last six years has seen them win a number of awards, including Road Haulier of the Year and Road Freight Operator of the Year over two consecutive years at the Multimodal Awards.
A Microlise customer for more than five years, Maritime has been using Fleet Performance and Journey Management products to increase efficiency and safety, whilst optimising route and schedule management.
Maritime is now moving towards Microlise Proof of Delivery, a paperless solution which provides complete visibility of delivery operations. All activity will be tracked electronically using the software which also features task management, driver communication and access to site notes and manifest information.
The leading logistics company is upgrading its telematics hardware, connected to each truck in its fleet, and adding next generation Drivetab Android tablet devices. Drivers will use the new tablets for navigation, communication and to record consignment delivery and collection information. Journey progress will also be logged by the driver and automatically as trips unfold.
“Microlise is tried and tested and has given us incredible granularity to better understand our operations on both safe and economical fronts since 2012. Technology is advancing at great pace and we need to stay ahead by deploying new hardware and by extending how we use technology to new areas of the business, including compliance and POD,” said James Andrews, General Manager Systems Development at Maritime.
“We have improved our training, nearly eradicated idling and uncovered unnecessary mileage in our operation. With this upgrade we are turning our attention to reducing paperwork where possible, streamlining the delivery process and cutting out unnecessary admin with remote tachograph download. This extension puts us in the best position to make the most of opportunities as they arise,” he added.
Having remote digital tachograph download will make life easier for management and drivers by removing the administration of manually collecting tacho data. The new functionality will enable Maritime to regularly and securely collect tacho data wherever the vehicles are.
Maritime is also deploying the Driver Performance Management smartphone app for the first time; to give drivers access to detailed information on their driving performance. It will also provide analysis around particular aspects of their driving where improvements may be required.
“It’s always great to see a long-term customer renewing and investing further in Microlise products. We’re pleased to be continuing our partnership and helping Maritime to realise more value, in even more areas,” said Nadeem Raza, Chief Executive Officer of Microlise.
