For the fifth consecutive year, Maritime Transport Ltd. (Maritime) has pledged its support to the Royal British Legion by fixing poppies to its entire fleet. The iconic flower will be displayed on the front of over 1,300 container and distribution vehicles for the duration of Remembrance as one of the UK’s largest privately-owned intermodal transport operators once again proudly supports one of its chosen charities’ biggest fundraising campaigns.
Drivers and office-based staff based across Maritime’s 32-depot network volunteered on the 2nd and 3rd of November to simultaneously fit poppies onto the grille of each tractor unit. Following Maritime’s most recent vehicle fleet expansion, this monumental challenge and cause that holds close to a number of employees’ hearts was a considerable achievement for staff, many of whom are ex-service personnel.
John Williams, Group Chairman at Maritime, stated; ‘We are incredibly proud to be supporting this appeal once again, as we pay tribute to those who have served and currently serve in the Armed Forces. As signatories of the Corporate Covenant that employs military personnel through various schemes and partnerships, we recognise the value they bring to their roles within Maritime and the industry itself, and so we wholeheartedly stand behind this important cause, creating an even greater awareness that we hope other transport operators will follow.’
‘Maritime has played a large part over the years in enabling us the means to administer and support the delivery of welfare services to those that make up the Armed Forces community today, as well as their families,’ said Mandi Cox-Osborne, Community Fundraiser at the Suffolk Royal British Legion. ‘We’re really pleased they’ve chosen to support us again this year, and are extremely grateful for their generous donation.’
