London-based Marigold Health Foods has expanded its fleet, adding a new DAF LF 18-tonne rigid truck specified with Carrier Transicold’s ICELAND engineless refrigeration system – the ideal solution for a health food company that aims to operate in the most environmentally sustainable way. Carrier Transicold, which operates in the UK as Carrier Transicold (UK) Limited, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX)
The ICELAND undermount system was recommended by leasing provider Petit Forestier (UK) Ltd., which highlighted the unit’s ability to run entirely on hydro-electric power generated by the truck’s ultra-clean Euro VI engine. The system helps to reduce environmental impact by cutting emissions and improving fuel efficiency, whilst also lowering maintenance costs.
“As a major distributor of natural and organic products, improving the sustainability of our logistics operation is of primary importance,” said Joel Clancy, logistics manager, Marigold Health Foods. “The ICELAND system has made an instant and positive impact, reducing our carbon dioxide emissions and making this the quietest truck in our fleet, which reduces the risk of disturbance in residential areas.”
Marigold Health Foods will primarily use the vehicle for deliveries across Greater London. As the ICELAND unit offers 100 per cent refrigeration capacity at idle speed and operates at sound levels below 60 dB(A) – making it PIEK-compliant – it is ideally suited for the company’s intensive urban delivery schedule.
The DAF truck marks an expansion to Marigold’s seven-strong fleet and will accommodate business growth. It offers a 15-pallet load capacity, meeting the needs for larger, chilled multi-drop deliveries, and joins a fleet which is 100 per cent Carrier-cooled.
Supplied on a five-year contract from Petit Forestier (UK) Ltd., it will operate from Marigold’s headquarters in Tottenham and will also be used for the occasional delivery to Oxford, Brighton and the south coast.
Marigold Health Foods was established in the 1970s and offers more than 4,000 individual products sourced from almost 500 suppliers.
