The Irish Road Hauage Asociation (IRHA) has highlighted the issue of work permits for HGV drivers, post Brexit.
IRHA President Verona Murphy attended the Department of Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation Brexit forum in Carrick-on-Shanno, Co Leitrim on Monday, and highlighted the issue of work permits.
The IRHA thanks the DJEI for the invitation as primary stakeholders of the road haulage sector and allowing them the opportunity to put the licenced road haulage sectors point across.
The IRHA informed the Department and both Minister Mary Mitchell O’Connor and Junior Minister John Halligan of the need to recognise the difficulties that will be faced regarding work permits for UK and Northern Ireland drivers workingt for companies in the Republic of Ireland. d.
“The HGV driver sector is currently not on the eligibility list for non EU work permits. We encourage the DJEI to review this situation and bring wage requirements for such in line with minimum wage requirements as in other EU member states,” Ms Murphy commented.
