Freight Transport Association Ireland’s newly-appointed general manager says he looks forward to launching exciting new projects in 2017 and striving to make FTAI the most admired and influential membership trade association in Ireland.

Aidan Flynn (43), who was previously business services manager, takes up the post from today following the departure in September of Neil McDonnell, who had been with organisation for three years.

Mr Flynn said: “I am honoured and extremely proud to be chosen to lead the FTA Ireland team. I have worked with FTAI since the formative years of the Association in Ireland and together we have established a viable trade association in the midst of the worst economic recession in our
country’s’ recent history, and have done so by promoting safety and compliance requirements to fleet operators.”

Before joining FTAI, Mr Flynn held a number of senior leadership positions within the transport and logistics sector in Ireland. These included the establishment of a dedicated commercial fleet training business, health and safety and risk management consultancy and road safety initiatives.

“One of my key strengths is relationship building and I thrive on working with the members, promoting our services and listening to their issues. I am committed to ensuring that all of us at FTAI works tirelessly to meet our vision to be the most admired and influential membership trade ssociation in Ireland and the undisputed voice of the supply chain with the public and Government,” e said.

Mr Flynn said FTA Ireland members were in a healthyposition through their ongoing participation in he Association’s lauded accreditation programme, which will be expanded in 2017 with the launch f VanSafe, an accreditation scheme for the commercial light goods vehicle sector.
“FTA Ireland will continue to focus on promoting compliance, working with all stakeholders in a progressive and professional manner and continuously encouraging our members to push for higher safety and operational standards. That is the basisfor our accreditation programme. This, without doubt, will give the return on investment for our members, will improve perceptions, improve levels of professionalism and ultimately make transport and logistics appealing to the younger generation as a viable and rewarding career choice,” he said.

Mr Flynn is married with two children and lives in Dublin. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf
and football. His professional qualifications and memberships include: Bsc (Mgmt); MBS
(Management and Organisational Studies); Dip SHWW; Certificate in Training and Continuing Education; Transport Manager CPC; CMILT (Chartered member of Institute of Logistics and Transport).
